As a subsidiary of the Wurzer Umwelt group of companies in Eitting, Bavaria, Wurzer Umweltdienst GmbH bundles all activities in the field of landscape and water maintenance, among others. Well-known companies from far beyond the greater Munich area use the wide range of services – from hydroelectric power plant operators to road maintenance in municipalities and cities as well as on highways. The 300-strong fleet of specialist vehicles can also tackle tricky challenges such as waterway desilting or mulching work on steep slopes. The fleet heroes include four Menzi Muck walking excavators, which have been upgraded with the OilQuick Tiltrotator.

In addition to functionality and quality, service plays a particularly important role for Managing Director Rasso Schatz when putting together his fleet. Whether it’s the availability of spare parts or the accessibility of customer service, the performance of the dealers and manufacturers must be right when it comes to support.
Rasso Schatz also attaches great importance to flexibility, because the demands on his machinery are as special as the projects at Wurzer Umweltdienst: some attachments require particularly high oil pressures and oil quantities, others are converted into individual solutions in the company’s own workshop. He therefore expects his fleet partners to be open to special technical requests.

THE CHALLENGE
EFFICIENCY
When it comes to sloping terrain, the Menzi Muck walking excavators come into their own. The “spider excavator” is equipped with a pole cutter, stone or sorting grapple, mulcher and felling saw to complete even difficult tasks on extreme slopes, steep embankments or in water up to 2 meters deep. The teams not only work under challenging conditions, but also against tight deadlines. Rasso Schatz is therefore always open to innovations on how machines and manpower can be used more efficiently. Among other things, the OilQuick quick coupler OQ65 has been standard equipment in the Wurzer Umweltdienst fleet for many years.
Tilt and rotary units from various manufacturers were also retrofitted to the Menzi Muck – with great potential, but with weak points such as external hoses and an inadequate oil supply for high-performance attachments such as the mulcher.
THE CHALLENGE
CHANGING DEVICES
An important part of the Feeß fleet are wheel loaders, which are particularly productive in the recycling parks and storage areas. The problem: the wide range of applications of the wheel loaders requires switching between different attachments. Getting out, uncoupling, coupling and re-coupling several times a day – all in all a considerable loss of time.
The aim was therefore to significantly speed up the equipment changes in order to combine the versatility of the wheel loaders with maximum efficiency.

What he personally wants to drive forward together with the Schauer family are smart ideas on how downtimes can be shortened even further – for example, by allowing spare parts for special solutions to be ordered via the OilQuick app.
