The fact is: There is no internationally standardised or normed interface for quick couplers – and consequently no universal compatibility amongst systems from different manufacturers nor guarantee agreements.
» We are convinced that custom solutions such as the OilQuick system are the best strategy for the quick coupler market. Standards applying to all manufacturers are always the ‘lowest common denominator’ – which we see as a compromise to the detriment of our customers.
The high level of ongoing coordination required for a standard would significantly slow the pace of innovation, as well as the diversification our market requires. And what’s more: Identical geometry alone does not automatically guarantee the same level of quality. Quick couplers are not fast-moving consumer goods, but high-priced capital equipment in a hazardous working environment. We take this responsibility very seriously!
That is why we continue to rely on our own OilQuick system so that we are able, at any time, to quickly and flexibly provide our customers with the best technical solution currently possible and uncomplicated guarantees. «

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT CLEAN SYSTEM
WHAT EXACTLY DOES BECOMING A CLEAN SYSTEM PARTNER MEAN?
Clean System is an interest group of OilQuick retail partners with a particularly high standard of safety, reliability and sustainability. The Clean System Seal is your statement to actively lower risks and to ensure sustainable fleet performance.
So, as a Clean System partner, you ensure that:
• OilQuick products are not be indiscriminately combined with other quick coupler systems
• every constellation involving more than one brand is checked by us
• only original spare parts are used for servicing
• your customers are made aware of the risks of mixed operation
IS CLEAN SYSTEM VOLUNTARY?
Yes! Joining Clean System does not leave you with a choice between the various system providers. As a Clean System partner, you are still completely free to put together your brand portfolio as you wish.
WHAT SPECIFIC RISKS DOES MIXED OPERATION ENTAIL?
• Damage to the hydraulic system
• Contamination of the oil circuit of other support equipment and attachments through shared attached tools
• Increased material fatigue and reduced service life
• Electrical faults in safety-relevant circuits
• Misunderstandings of the locking situation
WHAT IS THE “S STANDARD” WHICH MANY MANUFACTURERS REFER TO?
The oft quoted “S-Standard” is a voluntary agreement that Swedish machine suppliers introduced in 2011 for mechanical quick couplings on the Scandinavian market. First of all, the terms “standard” or “norm” are therefore strictly speaking wrong and, secondly, the S-Standard is not designed for the special features of fully automatic quick coupler systems. The S-Standard agreement does not specify any binding specifications for hydraulic and electronic components, nor have allowances been made for the significantly higher requirements for the dimensional accuracy of fully automatic systems.
Over the last two decades, many manufacturers have very successfully developed their own company standards for fully automatic quick couplers. Although they are mostly based on the S-Standard, they include a large number of individual adaptations and innovations. One example is the protective plate on OilQuick diggers, which reliably prevent contamination of the stick by rolling dirt, but which are not a part of the S-Standard agreement.
SOME MANUFACTURERS PROMOTE DESIGN ADVANTAGES WITH FULL COMPATIBILITY – TRUE OR FALSE?
False! Two examples: For example, weight advantages are often expressed in terms of castings – but this information does not take into account the weight of the adapter discs required to adapt standardised castings to the approximately 200 different excavator style dimensions. OilQuick quick couplers are intentionally welded in order to adapt each quick coupler to each specific attachment with millimetre precision. We weighed things again: The bottom line is that there is no weight advantage from castings. Even currently marketed increases in the cross-section in the quick coupler coupling do not physically lead to higher oil flow rates – quite the opposite: Larger cross-sections on the coupling inlet can have a negative effect on flow conditions, as the resistance in the coupling increases due to the same cross-section on the coupling outlet.
WILL THERE BE A COMMON QUICK COUPLER STANDARD IN THE NEAR FUTURE?
In order to ensure full compatibility, a new, common set of rules from leading manufacturers would be necessary, covering not only materials and allowances but also couplings, hydraulics and electronics – which experience shows to be a very lengthy process! There is currently no industry-wide initiative for standardisation.
